If you missed the lesson mercoledi' 24 aprile - here is a summary of what we covered:
- listened to dialogue (Track 5 Espresso 2 CD) - without following transcript, and then checked understanding through questions: who is speaking? what are they arguing about?
- for the second listening students followed the transcript (see handout below) and identified verbs used in the passato prossimo and imperfetto forms
- a brief writing exercise followed where students answered the question: perche' Pietro non vuole animali in casa? (answers were written on first page of handout)
- in keeping with one of the communicative aims of Chapter 2 (addurre argomenti a favore e contro qualcosa - to argue for or against a subject) - students completed the writing exercise (pg 2 of handout) answering the question: Sei favorevole o contrario/contraria ad avere animali in casa? A speed chatting session followed where students practiced asking and answering, giving their reasons for or against the argument
- another listening exercise followed (Track 6 Espresso 2 CD)(transcript on page 24, exercise 8 Tu dove andavi in vacanza?). Special note was made here - using the imperfetto form of the verb to describe ongoing, habitual actions of the past, and the passato prossimo form to describe a past action that occurred once. Students completed writing exercise 9, page 25, categorising the modes of expression under the columns: Normalmente (habitual actions) or Una volta (an action occurring once) as well as Exercise 8, Pg 24 and Exercise 10, Pg 25
- A writing exercise followed (see pg 2 of handout) - students are to answer the question: E tu? Dove trascorevi le vacanze di solito? Hai mai fatto una vacanza diversa da quelle abituali? This may be completed for homework and emailed to Rosella for marking
- a reading exercise followed with the class divided into 2 groups - each group taking a character (interviewer or interviewee) and reading with as much expression as possible. The vero/falso exercise on Pg 27 was completed.
- based on the reading, a writing exercise followed where students answered interview questions about themselves - see pg 3 of handout. These questions should be prepared for next week's lesson where students will be interviewing one another.
- Lesson ended with students listening to the song C'era un ragazzo and filling in blanks with forms of the imperfetto tense
