Espresso 3 - Unita' 1 - Do you speak Italian?
TOPIC 1: Do you speak Italian?
LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS: requesting information, expressing disappointment, expressing an opinion, asking/granting permission, asking/allowing to borrow something, expressing doubt, expressing agreement/disagreement
LANGUAGE STRUCTURES:
· use of prima di +infinitive: Prima di andare in Italia, vorrei fare un corso d’italiano.
· the past perfect tense: Quando sono arrivata, Franca era già partita.
· the verb metterci to express ‘how long?’: Quanto tempo ci metti per andare al lavoro?
· use of qualsiasi: Usate qualsisi opportuità per migliorare.
· relative pronouns il/la quale; i/le quali: Mio padre, il quale aveva un lavoro dipendente, adesso si è messo in proprio.
· the verb dovere to express a supposition: Il libro dovrebbe essere lì (….forse è lì)
· combined pronouns – Mi presti il vocabolario? Me lo presti?
The negative prefix –in: utile – inutile (non utile)

- then in pairs we practised getting to know one
another by asking questions – see attachment below pg 2
- next, we moved on to Esercizio 1, pagina 8, and
checked for understanding of all answers to the question: Perche’ impari una lingua straniera? Practise followed in groupwork
by doing a survey un [sondaggio] –
see attachment below. Class discussion followed after analysing the results of
the survey
- the exercise continued with groups doing a
second survey [sondaggio] – see attachment
– asking the question Qual è il tuo obiettivo?
Each group analysed results and
reported back: Nel nostro gruppo, l’obiettivo
più importante è……..gli obiettivi più importanti sono……
- last
section of Esercizio 1 was completed individually – come valuti il tuo livello di conoscenza dell’italiano?
