Casa dolce casa...
(Espresso 2, capitolo 9)
Intenzioni communicative: esprimere necessita', desideri [expressing necessities and wishes]; descrivere una casa [describing a home]; fare supposizioni e motivarle [making assumptions and justifying them]; addurre argomenti a favore e contro [putting forward arguments for and against something]
If you missed the lesson mercoledi' 10 settembre, this is what we covered:
Se si compra qualche vecchio mobile, diventera' piu' accogliente [one could use a 'frase ipotetica' commencing with 'se' - to put forward a solution]
Comprando qualche vecchio mobile, diventera' piu' accogliente [one could substitute with the gerundio 'comprando' - to put forward a solution - corresponds to the English: 'by buying.....']
If you missed the lesson mercoledi' 10 settembre, this is what we covered:
- we began on pagina 105, esercizio 7 where we practised finding the solution to a problem by using the 'gerundio'. Remember, the 'gerundio' is simply formed by adding '-ando' to the stem of verbs ending in '-are' and '-endo' to the stem of verbs ending in '-ere' or '-ire'. Look at the given example:
Se si compra qualche vecchio mobile, diventera' piu' accogliente [one could use a 'frase ipotetica' commencing with 'se' - to put forward a solution]
Comprando qualche vecchio mobile, diventera' piu' accogliente [one could substitute with the gerundio 'comprando' - to put forward a solution - corresponds to the English: 'by buying.....']
- Try practising with the other examples given in esercizio 7, pagina 105 as well as esercizio 9, pagina 179
- Next we listened to the dialogue esercizio 8, pagina 105 and highlighted the forms of comparison - scambiare una casa e' piu' conveniente che affittarne una and Questa casa e' piu' bella della nostra [note the use of 'di' when comparing to a noun or pronoun and 'che' in other cases - Luigi e' piu' magro di te/ di Carlo. and Fa piu' freddo dentro che fuori.]
- next we practised this form of comparison as well as the use of 'congiuntivo' by completing esercizio 9, pagina 106 and esercizio 11, pagina 180 - remember the congiuntivo is used after Credo che... / Penso che ../ and Suppongo che.., but not after Secondo me.. / Per me.. / Sono sicuro che...
- Another listening exercise followed esercizio 12, pagina 107 - see transcript below - and multiple choice questions answered to check for understanding
- finally, in groups, we discussed how to furnish an apartment - see esercizio 1, pagina 108
