If you missed the lesson mercoledi' 9 aprile - here is a summary of what we covered:
- we began with a quick overview of the rules to form the imperativo and then referred back to previous week when we had practised using the imperativo and pronoun eg: Mangia la mela. Mangiala!
- To practise, we played the imperativo card game - see handouts below with answer sheet. In turns, players pick up a card and convert the phrase to the imperative form. As you will see from the answer sheet, there are several possible answers according to whether one is using the 'tu', 'noi', or 'voi' form.
- Next, we went on to Espresso 2 pagina 70 esercizio 8 Riscopri il gusto della tavola! We read the introduction that speaks of how the enjoyment of food has been lost due to modern day busy lives and how one needs to adopt a new philosophy in opposition to 'fast food'.
- We observed some images (see handout) related to the 'slow food movement' and deconstructed the meaning of phrases like: mangia meglio, meno e piano; difendere il cibo buono, pulito e giusto; slow food: gastronomia per la liberazione
- the last two images show phrases in the imperative and pronoun which we had been practising: associati! (sign up!); mangiamoli giusti! (eat them....(the fish), correctly); We also discovered the meaning of 'slow fish' - pesci da mettere sul piatto / quelli da lasciare nel mare
- Reading practise on the Slow food facts followed - see pg 2 of handout
- In pairs, we took turns reading the 'rules' governing 'slow' food philosophy (pagina 70, esercizio 8) and underlined the forms of the imperative - after which we filled in the various forms of the imperative in the appropriate column - see last handout below
- in pairs, and taking turns, we practised the phrase: Per salvare la 'vecchia tavola' io compro sempre prodotti freschi. Comprali sempre anche tu! (pagina 71, esercizio 9) and so on for the remaining 7 phrases.
- to prepare for the reading on the next page, we considered what our preconceived ideas might be regarding Italians and their eating habits. Pagina 71 esercizio 11 Italiani a tavola - students read through the phrases describing Italian eating habits and ticked those they thought might apply - once the article on the subsequent page was read we'd go back and see if our preconceived ideas match reality....!
- Pagina 72 - students read article and answered questions on handout (last 2 pages) - we didn't manage to complete the exercise in class - students to complete for homework.
- Buon lavoro!
